So Kevlin Henny delivered this lecture about the usefulness and validity of declarative programming at the ACCU Conference in 2016. It's a neat lecture. It's relative to WAA because of all of the declarative languages we use: HTML, CSS, mySQL, etc.
Sometimes declarative languages get a bad rap, because of the scope that they are limited to. Some programmers don't even count HTML as a computer language. Declarative languages are their own thing though, with their own place and necessity in computer science.
